Yet another successful Cross Country league was hosted by Central Gauteng Athletics powered by MTN SA Foundation at the Westonaria Sports Complex on the 05 July 2014. This league marked as a half way mark to the Central Gauteng Athletics Championships will be hosted in just over a month from now.
The pressure is now on the athletes as some need to improve to qualify for selection and some have recently started racing in the 2014 Cross Country season and need to work hard into making it for selection. Quite an interesting league it was as it seemed to be very competitive, top runners are given a challenge and it is up to them to maintain their positions. On this league we had athletes that challenged the expected outcomes of the usual top runner’s winnings. This goes to show the commitment and level of seriousness that athletes have. Central Gauteng Athletics together with its athletes may be in for a few surprising outcomes as we wait to see who makes it through to the Championships.
This league saw the new barcoding system go on full swing with majority of the athletes receiving their barcodes and being scanned by officials at the finish so that they appear on the results. As the system is being implemented, an appeal by Central Gauteng Athletics to athletes/coaches to make sure that all athletes have their own unique barcode number prior to their relevant race. This is to ensure that all results are more accurate.
